How to Use This Template
This template is designed to help you identify gaps in your board, determine the expertise needed, and strategically recruit members who can contribute meaningfully. Use this framework to evaluate who you need, how they can help, and what to look for in a candidate.
Step 1: Identify Gaps & Needs
- What are our biggest organizational challenges right now?
- (Examples: Fundraising, financial oversight, marketing, legal compliance, community outreach)
- What expertise is missing from our current board?
- (Examples: Grant writing, digital marketing, corporate sponsorships, legal expertise, governance)
- Do we need connections to specific industries or networks?
- (Examples: Corporate donors, media, local government, high-net-worth individuals)
- Are there skill sets we need to strengthen?
- (Examples: Strategy development, financial management, branding, HR/operations)
